The Pillow Plan

This is the essential guide to selecting the right size and combination of cushions for your bed or sofa.

It is not an easy task to create a pillow plan for your bed or sofa but we have taken out the guess work.


The first step to the perfect pillow plan is deciding on the arrangement, we have provided some diagrams below to illustrate some of our never fail combinations.



SINGLE BED


Combination One:


Place one large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place one Lumbar pillow 40 x 60cm in front of two standard stacked pillows.







Combination Two:


Place one large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place one Bolster 45 x 20cm in front of two standard stacked pillows.







Combination Three:


Place one large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place one Bolster 50 x 50cm in front of two standard stacked pillows.







QUEEN BED


Combination One:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place one long Bolster 130 x 20cm in front of four standard stacked pillows.







Combination Two:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 50 x 50cm in front of four standard stacked pillows.







Combination Three:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 50 x 50cm in front of four standard stacked pillows.


Place one more 50 x 50cm pillow at the front.




Combination Four:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 60 x 60cm in front of four standard stacked pillows.


Place one 50 x 50cm pillow at the front.





Combination Five:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 40 x 60cm in front of four standard stacked pillows.


Place one 50 x 50cm pillow at the front.





Combination Six:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 40 x 60cm in front of four standard stacked pillows.


Place one more 40 x 60cm pillow at the front.




Combination Seven:

KING BED


Combination One:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place one long Bolster 130 x 20cm in front of four king size stacked pillows.







Combination Two:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 50 x 50cm in front of king size stacked pillows.







Combination Three:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 50 x 50cm in front of four king size stacked pillows.


Place one more 50 x 50cm pillow at the front.




Combination Four:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 60 x 60cm in front of four king size stacked pillows.

Combination Five:


Place three large 60 x 60cm pillow against the headboard.


Place two 40 x 60cm in front of four king size stacked pillows.

Combination Six:

Place two 40 x 60cm in front of four king size stacked pillows.

SOFA


Combination One:


Place two large 60 x 60cm pillows in the far corners of the sofa.


Place two 50 x 50cm in front of the large pillows.






Combination Two:


Place two large 60 x 60cm pillows in the far corners of the sofa.


Place one 50 x 50cm in front of the large pillow on the left or right.


Place one 40 x 60cm Lumbar cushion to balance the opposite side.




Combination Three:


Place two large 60 x 60cm pillows in the far corners of the sofa.


Place two 40 x 60cm Lumbar pillows in front of the large pillows.







Combination Four:


Place two large 60 x 60cm pillows in the far corners of the sofa.


Place one 40 x 60cm Lumbar pillow in the centre.







Combination Five:


Place two large 60 x 60cm pillow in the far corners of the sofa.


Place two 50 x 50cm in front of the large pillows.


Place one 40 x 60cm Lumbar pillow in the centre.






The next step to the perfect pillow plan is choosing a simple colour palette. We have included some examples below.



We like to start with a neutral base

eg. Grey, black, beige or white.















Then add no more than one or two colours or neutrals.













The last step to the perfect pillow plan is to balance the mix of patterned and solid pillows.


Start with a solid/plain base


Then add either a solid in a contrasting colour or a pillow in the same tone as the first but a different texture to create interest.


Finally choose a pattern or feature pillow that features at least one of the same colours as the previous selections to tie them all together.
