THE WARATAH

A one-bedroom Art Deco apartment reimagined as a thoughtfully planned two-bedroom home — tailored, expressive, and designed for modern living without compromising its heritage charm.

The starting point was a major spatial shift: relocating the kitchen from the front of the apartment made space for a second bedroom and dramatically improved the flow. This reconfiguration allowed the living areas to breathe, with light moving more freely through the home and each zone feeling distinct yet connected.

Drawing inspiration from the surreal whimsy of Fornasetti and the quiet elegance of classic Art Deco New York, the interiors are layered, refined, and quietly confident. Turco Argento limestone and dark-stained European oak flooring ground the apartment in timeless materials, while burgundy and navy accents introduce richness and warmth. A neutral base palette allows for expressive furnishings — sculptural, playful, and ever-evolving.

Curved detailing in the kitchen subtly echoes the arched window in the living room, where views open onto Rushcutters Bay Park. In winter, you see through the bare branches; in summer, you’re cradled in green — the apartment transforms into a leafy retreat, high above the park, like a private treehouse.

A custom wine display and thoughtful moments of detail add personality without excess. The result is a space that feels refined and relaxed — considered, yet never overly formal. The most rewarding outcome? A home that reflects the client’s taste, not passing trends — one they can grow with over time.

At its heart, The Waratah is a quiet expression of individuality. That’s what we bring to every project: a dedication to understanding our clients and creating homes that feel deeply, unmistakably theirs.
